ARTISTIC AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

 

The residency is designed to support conductors in developing:

 

– New conducting projects, programs, and artistic propositions

– More rigorous methods of score study and contextual research

– Precisely articulated interpretative frameworks

– Stronger connections between analysis, rehearsal, and performance

– Rehearsal plans responsive to musical, temporal, and interpersonal conditions

– Expanded methods of gesture, verbal communication, listening, and feedback

– Curatorial and dramaturgical thinking

– Production strategies integrating artistic, technical, spatial, and logistical considerations

– More reflective models of authority, leadership, and collaboration

– Greater awareness of institutional and infrastructural conditions

– Methods for working with contemporary, experimental, interdisciplinary, and technologically mediated practices

– The capacity to revise projects in response to musicians and material conditions

– Public realization of projects within an international festival context

 

Participation may also enable conductors to clarify how their individual practices relate to larger questions of repertoire, canon formation, institutional responsibility, public culture, access, labor, and the future configuration of collective musical work.

 

For conductors developing projects and programs, the residency offers a framework for:

 

– Initiating new projects or substantially advancing existing ones

– Researching scores, repertoire, contexts, and performance histories

– Examining how programming creates artistic and historical arguments

– Testing the relation between conceptual aims and practical feasibility

– Receiving detailed artistic, analytical, technical, and critical feedback

– Refining sonic, dramaturgical, structural, and production dimensions

For conductors working directly with ensembles, the residency supports:
