INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE

 

A central objective of infra.norma.meta is to create substantive exchange among conductors working across different cultural, educational, institutional, disciplinary, and professional contexts.

 

The international structure of the residency enables participants to encounter distinct interpretative traditions, compare analytical and rehearsal methodologies, and examine how conducting practices are conditioned by particular histories, institutions, resources, ensemble cultures, and production environments.

 

Such comparison is not intended to establish a universal model of best practice. It creates an opportunity to recognize that techniques and professional norms understood as self-evident within one context may be historically contingent, institutionally specific, or interpreted differently elsewhere.

 

International exchange is therefore approached not as the passive representation of difference, but as a process of attentive listening, translation, negotiation, and shared inquiry. Participants are encouraged to articulate their positions precisely while remaining open to the possibility that sustained engagement with others may transform their assumptions and methods.

 

The program’s duration allows relationships to develop through repeated intellectual and artistic contact rather than brief professional encounter. Participants return to one another’s projects across several months, observe their development, and contribute to processes of clarification, testing, and revision.

 

The residency aims to foster relationships that remain meaningful beyond the immediate preparation of festival performances and that may generate future programs, commissions, ensembles, productions, research, institutional partnerships, or forms of artistic dialogue across national and disciplinary boundaries.
